The CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute has a great web site at www.cfainstitute.org that provides valuable information for individual investors. Click on the “Information for Individual Investors” link. There are several useful publications under “What Investors Should Know,” such as “Choosing a Financial Advisor,” “Why Select a CFA Charterholder,” and others.
The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards offers a variety of useful items under www.cfpboard.org. Under the “Learn about Financial Planning” link they have a number of useful topics such as “Choosing a Planner” and “Your Rights as a Financial Client.”
The Financial Planning Association (FPA) provides a useful site at www.fpanet.org/public. There are a number of useful items under “Brochures” inside the “Learning Tools” section, including “Tips on Working with a Financial Advisor” and “Keys to Being a Smarter Investor.”
The American Association of Individual Investors web site is available at www.aaii.com. The AAII is a wonderful advocate for the individual investor. They list a variety of educational articles under the “Investing Basics” tab.
Some other web sites you may find useful for business and financial news are www.morningstar.com, www.moneycentral.com, www.yahoo.com (click on the “Finance” icon), and www.aol.com (click on “Money and Finance”).
Many of our clients have accounts at TD Ameritrade. The link for our Ameritrade clients is on the TD Ameritrade Institutional web site at www.ameritradeadvisor.com. We do not require our clients to have accounts at TD Ameritrade; several of our clients have accounts with other broker-dealers. Pine Cone Capital does have an institutional agreement with TD Ameritrade and will recommend establishing accounts with them as a broker-dealer in the absence of a client preference otherwise.
